Earning Money with Amazon Affiliate Marketing

What is Amazon Affiliate Marketing? Earning Money with Amazon Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is when you sell someone else's product in exchange for a commission. So, if you have a website and send someone to Amazon through it, you will receive a commission if that person purchases something from Amazon.

That’s Amazon Affiliate Marketing for you. Simple, isn’t it?

Earning Money with Amazon Affiliate Marketing

There’s a reason that why a lot of marketers are into Amazon Affiliate Program rather being someplace else. Here are some of the prime benefits:

  • Amazon is a trusted website. You're done as soon as you send someone to Amazon! There’s a high chance that the traffic will end up buying something as Amazon is so good with conversions.
  • Because Amazon is such a well-known company, you won't have to worry about getting paid. There are many affiliate websites that pay huge commissions but aren't legitimate, and you never know if you'll get paid the next month. You don’t have that problem with Amazon.
  • There are thousands of products on Amazon on different categories. You'd rather to work on something you enjoy, right? Amazon gives you that opportunity.

Let’s also talk about the negatives of Amazon Affiliate marketing so that we are on a neutral ground.

  • Amazon pays the lowest in terms of commission. Their commission varies from 2%-10% in general.
  • Amazon has a lot of rules and regulations. You have to be very careful if you want to sustain with their affiliate program in the long run.

Having said all that, it is still one of the finest affiliate programs to jump in. There will always be pros and cons of everything. You just have to take that calculative risk.

How Much Can I Earn with Amazon Affiliate Marketing?

So the idea is very simple. When you send someone on Amazon from your website and he/she buys a video game console worth $400, you get 1% of that amount which is $4. Again, if another person buys a digital video game worth $100, you get 10% of that amount which is $10.

You get the idea, right?

Let’s assume you have a website that has around 500 visitors a day. That’s not tough. We will get into the details later on.

Now, 500 visitors a day means 15,000 visitors a month, right? Let’s assume 20% of this people go to Amazon from your website. That is 3000 people, right?

Now, among those 3000, let’s again assume that 500 people buy something on Amazon and each purchase worth $50.

That’s around $25000. Now depending on what they are buying, your income will vary as the commissions are different for different categories. On average, you will get around 6% probably.

That makes your monthly income $1500 from one single website.

Let’s have 10 websites like this one! Boom!

You get to $15000 a month.

In fact, you don’t have to have 10 other websites. You can have 10 other pages of that same website ranking for different keywords. That will do the job too.

Getting the idea? Cool!

I am not trying to be a math guru here. I know 100s of affiliate marketers who do this and earn a lot more than that amount. They are not super intelligent; they are not different than you. They just work hard! If you promise to do the same, you will be able to achieve that figure and go beyond within next 4 months, I promise.

Importance of Having a Great Plan & Finding Your Topic of Interest

Continue reading to understand what I mean.

The Importance of Having a Great Plan

If you are a reader of my website, worthblogge , you know by now that I am a big fan of planning. It is not that all my plans are successful; it is not that I don’t change my plans at all either! I just try to be as strategic as possible because I think it is important.

Now, I have seen the other side of the coin too where marketers do random shits and their methods work too at times. I will only talk about my style as that works for me.

You need to have an awesome plan if you want to create a website that makes money. Trust me, if you don’t create a plan and be organic about it, you will never be able to go live with your website.

My suggestion would be that you write a detailed plan on how you will create and rank your website to earn money month by month. Then print that plan out and put it on your wall. That really helps.

Finding Your Topic of Interest

Now, you know what is Amazon Affiliate Marketing and you are determined that you want to do something with that knowledge. What’s the first step?

The first step would be finding your topic of interest!

See, there are a lot of categories on Amazon. Simply decide which category you like the most and click on that. You will find a bunch of products in every category. Now, there are two ways to go about it. You can either go wide or go narrow. In affiliate marketing terms, we call these going authority or going niche.

This is a website that talks about drones and quad copters. The website is all about reviews and the only earning method is Amazon’s affiliate program. You can see that the website talks about drones only.

This website talks about everything related to baby products. Again, the primary method of earning is Amazon’s affiliate program but as you can see, the website is huge. They don’t only talk about one product but a whole category. This is an example of an authority website.

Basically, you will have to decide whether you want to go authority or niche with your topic of interest. Take your time and decide.

When you go authority, you have to invest a lot of money and time. On the other hand, when you go niche, your opportunity to earn in the long run gets limited. Therefore, this is a tricky decision to take.

If you ask me, my suggestion would be to go for a niche site but when buying a domain (more on this later), buy something that can be expanded later on. If you look at the domain tutorialsfist.com , it cannot cover other related products, right? But on the other hand, if the site was named as something like tutorialsfist.com then it could cover everything else too.

Finding Your Keyword & Keywords Testing

Keywords are important in Earning Money with Amazon Affiliate Marketing

Finding Your Keyword

A keyword is a search string that people use when they search on Google. So for example, if I am looking to buy a television and if I am Googling strings like “best television within $1000 or best television or television reviews” these will be considered as keywords.

In real world scenario, both best television and cute cat pics will be considered as keywords. But as we are dealing with Amazon Affiliate Marketing only, we will focus on the keywords that can benefit our affiliate marketing journey.

Now, think about it.

When we want to earn a commission based on purchase, we definitely want to target those keywords that result in sales, right? Let me ask you this. Suppose, you have a website about cats. Your website is ranked for two keywords on Google means that when people type these two keywords to search something, your website comes at the top of the Google search result.

The keywords are:

  • Cute cat picture
  • Best Cat Food

Now, tell me, which of these two keywords will give you more money when you redirect that person to Amazon? Obviously, it is the 2nd one which was “best cat food”.

The person who types something like “best cat food” on Google, you can be certain that he or she wants to buy one of the food items and when you let him/her read a review on your website about cat food and then redirect him/her to Amazon, the chances are high that you will end up with more commissions.

These are called buying keywords. Any keyword that is searched with an intention to buy something is known as a buying keyword.

When you are trying to build an Amazon Affiliate Website, you will have to try to rank for these keywords first.

Here are the most common buying keyword types:

  • Best + product
  • Product + reviews
  • Product + for sale
  • Best + product for sale Best + product under $500/ best + product under $1000
  • Product a vs Product b
  • Best + product for money

Simply replace the product part with your topic of interest. So for example, if I want to work with cat food, I will try to rank for keywords like best cat food, cat food reviews, cat food for sale and so on.

Now, after you know the format in which you will test your keywords, it is time to dive deep.

Before you jump in and start creating websites, you have to test your keyword.

Testing Your Keywords

Probably, the most important task that you will perform in your journey to become an Amazon Affiliate Marketer is testing your keyword.

Before you start spending any money, you have to figure out whether you can rank for the keyword that you are targeting. If you think you are not going to rank for a keyword, there is no point creating a website around it, right?

If you are not ranked on the first page or 2nd page, people will not be able to find you and thus, you will not be able to get any commissions.

Now, how do we test the keyword? What’s the process like? Different marketers follow different routes when it comes to testing the keyword. Some follow software driven methods, some do it in an organic way. I will talk about both methods.

So, if you want to use a software to test keyword, your best options out there are either Long Tail Pro or Keyword Revealer. I have used keyword revealer a lot in my early days and I think this is a cheap enough option to go for if you are really interested in using a paid keyword research tool.

When you type your keyword and hit analysis (make sure that you select the global google which is google.com) you will receive a range of data from these tools. Mostly, the result will comprise of these metrics:

  • Page Authority: Tells you how strong the page is on Google’s Eye
  • Domain authority: Tells you how strong the whole domain is in Google’s eyes
  • Backlinks: How many websites are linked to your competition websites
  • Age: How old your competitive websites are
  • Trust Flow: How trusty is the website on Google’s eyes

Apart from these data, the tool will also give you a difficulty score (varies from tool to tool) which will tell you whether you should go for the keyword or not.

My suggestion would be not depending on the tools and doing the research manually on your own. Let me tell you how you can do that.

So, let’s say we have decided to go for the keyword “best cat foods”. It is time to start our research phase. We will start by typing best cat food on Google. If you have the Keyword Everywhere Chrome Add-on Installed, you will immediately receive the search data.

Now, if you have a look at the picture, you will see that the search volume for the keyword is 14,800/Month. That’s a very good number. You can also see that I have another chrome add-on installed on the left side which is called SeoQuake. You will find that too on the Extensions.

That tells us about the back links of a domain. See the first result. That domain has 214 back links.

Now, if you want to know the PA and DA of the domains in this list (remember, all the websites that are there on the first page of Google for your keyword are your competitors), head to Moz and put the domain. This will tell you the DA and the PA.

Now visit Majestic and type that same domain. This will give you the Trust Flow. You pretty much know everything now, right?

Prepare an excel sheet with all the information of all the websites of the 1st page. Now do an average.

If you see that the average PA of the pages is less than 20, average DA is less than 30, average TF is less than 10 and the average back link is less than 50, it is a good opportunity to go for. At the end, it all comes down to whether you feel confident enough that you can beat the current 1st-page websites with your skills but if you want to be technical, that’s the process.

Content Strategy For Earning Money with Amazon Affiliate Marketing

Content is more important than anything else when you are trying to build a website in 2022 and beyond. Content is more important than you can ever imagine and the importance is increasing very rapidly.

It is near to impossible now to rank a website on Google without high-quality content in your website. Gone are those days when you could post a 500-word article and get a good ranking. If you want to rank any website today, you have to have quality long articles.

If it is a service based website, you might get away but if you are working on an affiliate website, there is no way that you can do well without quality content. Now, there are three basic types of content when it comes to affiliate marketing (with Amazon). They are:

  • Pillar Content
  • Single Reviews
  • Informative Content

Both pillar contents and single reviews are also known as money content and informative content is always shared to keep your audience engaged with the website. The ratio of money content and informative content should be at least 50-50 if not more.

What’s a pillar content?

Pillar content is a big article about one of your main keywords. For example, if you go to tutorialsfist.com , you will see a big article on the homepage that talks about a lot of stuff. They are 4000-5000 words in general. Though I have seen marketers go up to 8000 words for a single article.

A single review content is simply, reviews of single products. They include pros-cons, they include feature descriptions and so on.

Now, both of these content types will generate commission for you as people will go to Amazon to buy stuff when they land up on these pages. However, the Informative content is not exactly like that. When it is an informative content, you do not promote anything there. You simply try to solve the problems of your traffic.

So an informative content for that drone site could be an article about Drone laws. For the piano site, it could be a piano lesson related article.

Always try to produce as many words possible keeping the quality high. Good websites that earn 4000+ USD a month publishes on an average 10,000-20,000 words a month. Your website should have a minimum of 50,000 words to 200,000 words if you want to dominate a keyword.

Monetization & Getting Your Affiliate Links & SEO

On Page SEO: The Only Guide You Will Ever Need

This is where people start to struggle. SEO!

SEO is a nightmare to those who do not understand it. It is a nightmare to those too who are doing old school SEOs to rank their websites.

SEO is an ever changing topic and it is tough (I won’t lie). 99% of websites do not see huge earnings because of their poor SEO management.

SEO has two parts as we all know.  They are:

  • On Page SEO
  • Off Page SEO

On the page, SEO focuses on things that you can do inside your website to influence Google’s ranking. Off page, SEO focuses on things that you will have to do outside of your website to influence Google’s ranking.

We will talk about on page SEO in this section of the book.

Off-page SEO is very technical. So make sure that you understand your website’s backend/dashboard perfectly. Here are the rules that you need to maintain if you want to have a solid on page SEO structure.

  1. Always make sure that your URL is perfect. If you are targeting to rank for the keyword “how to travel with your dog”, it should be in your URL.
  2. As you can see from the same photo, the keyword should be in the title of your article Try to keep the keyword at the starting of the title if possible.
  3. Have solid page speed. Page speed is really important when you are trying to rank a site. None of the pages of your website should take more than 3 seconds to load up. You can check your page speed here:  gtmetrix
  4. When you are trying to rank a keyword, make sure that you are using all the variations of that keyword naturally inside the article. For example, if you want to rank for best umbrellas, make sure that you talk about rain, you talk about umbrella fabrics and so on.
  5. Link to the other pages of your website from one page. This is known as Silo. This creates a natural vibe and Google bots tend to like it.
  6. Link out to authority sources. If you think that a website will help your readers, do not be afraid in linking out to that. The outbound link is very important. This tells Google what your website is about.
  7. Make sure that your website is mobile friendly. If you can, try to install the AMP plug-in as Google will soon start to divide their algorithm for both mobile and desktop.
  8. Always use image & videos in your article. The more you can, the better.
  9. Encourage people to share your content. Social share is quickly becoming a very important ranking factor in Google’s eyes.

Monetization & Getting Your Affiliate Links

Now that your on-page SEO is done, it is time to grab the affiliate links. This is easy. I recommend that you only apply for an affiliate account to Amazon once you have published 15,000 words of content with at least 5000 informative content. To apply for an affiliate account, visit affiliate program amazon amazon  and click on Sign up.

It will take you from there.

Once you register, you will start seeing a bar at the top of Amazon whenever you visit. It looks like this:

Go to the page that you want to link out to from your website. Then click on that text button. You will get a link. Put the link on the page of your website & you are done.

From now on, whenever people will come to your website and get redirected to Amazon, Amazon will track that visitor.

Also, I recommend that if you are using WordPress, you should use a plug-in like Outbound Link Manager to no-follow the entire Amazon links. As you will be linking out to Amazon a lot from your website, it is wise to keep them as no-follow links. Google doesn’t care about the no-follow links.

Off Page SEO: You Don’t Need Other Strategies

This is not the right book to talk about off page SEO in details. Before we start, let me give you the most important line you will ever read in the SEO world.

“There is no magic. Those who end up ranking their websites work hard and that’s it.”I have seen so many people who know all the strategies but don’t do anything as they think that there will be some kind of a magic strategy or a shortcut to make things happen. There is nothing like that. If you want to go for Off-Page SEO, you have to be patient as it takes a long time to see the results of your work.

Now, there are two different parts of off page SEO. They are:

  • White Hat Techniques
  • Black Hat Techniques

Before we get into the hats, I should tell you what a backlink is.

A backlink is a link that another website points at your website. This is the most important factor when it comes to getting a good ranking in Google.

Now, there are different ways to acquire or receive backlinks. Some of them are ethical and some are not. Those that are not are known as black hat techniques.

Let’s start with the white hat techniques. Now that we know what a backlink is, the next question that comes to mind is how to get one, right?.
